About Us

The Pink Book protects and advocates for trans and gender nonconforming people in the arts industry, by supplying and signposting resources which align with our values of affirmative action, speaking truth, and calling out injustice. We challenge exclusion and assert the right to dignity and privacy in the workplace for all people, and we challenge the government’s ERHC guidance as unfit for purpose.

----- OUR MISSION

We envision a theatre industry that reflects and protects the full diversity of those who contribute to it. We believe in a world where the opinions of a billionaire-backed, vocal minority do not distort our lived reality.

We want to address and respond to the harmful impact of the EHRC guidance on trans theatre workers and audiences.

Our goal is to become a resource for venues, companies and individuals presenting legal and ethical arguments against transphobia whilst challenging those who claim they are complying with the EHRC guidance. We will circulate strategies on how to resist and provide reassurance to those affected, equipping them to assert their right to dignity, privacy, and safety.

  • We fight for transgender people.

  • We fight for intersex people.

  • We fight for women who exist outside of gender norms.

  • We fight to restore the UK’s cultural sector as a place of integrity and acceptance.

----- OUR CORE VALUES

SPEAK TRUTH.

The EHRC guidance is not equality. It is a licence for discrimination. We name what others soften. We tell the truth about how it harms trans theatre workers and audiences.

CALL OUT INJUSTICE.

We challenge every institution, venue, or funder that hides behind policy to discriminate. Silence enables harm and compliance leads to it.

RESIST.

We resist compliance with injustice. We use our creativity, solidarity, and collective power to keep trans people visible, employed, and safe.

STAND TOGETHER.

We are not a single voice. We are artists, performers, producers, designers, stage managers, theatre staff, and audiences, building a network of care that cannot be legislated away.

DEPLOY AFFIRMATIVE ACTION.

We move beyond defence. We take active steps to centre trans people in hiring, programming, and leadership. We refuse neutrality and act decisively for inclusion.
